Precaution: Minister brings dhoros back in fashion

According to Magsi, the restoration of the old natural drains is a temporary measure.

HYDERABAD:

In the absence of a storm drainage system in Sindh, the provincial government has decided to use the old natural drains (dhoros) by removing the encroachments, said Sindh Food Minister Nadir Magsi at a press conference on Sunday. “We will take help from the army, Rangers and the police.” He added that this would increase the capacity of the existing drains like the Left Bank Outfall Drain (LBOD).

Magsi heads the task force constituted by President Asif Ali Zardari for rehabilitation of the irrigation system. He said that railway lines, roads and bridges which obstruct the flow will also be removed.

The natural drains in lower Sindh like Puran and Digri in Mirpurkhas or Naro, Pithoro and Nabisar in Umerkot and Shahdadpur-Tando Adam dhoro were replaced in the recent past by the LBOD.

According to Magsi, the restoration of the old natural drains is a temporary measure.
