Malik Ishaq is released from Kot Lakhpat jail
Review board of LHC denies extension for Ishaq's detention.
LAHORE:
Malik Ishaq, the former leader of the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) has been released from Kot Lakhpat jail, official sources confirmed on Saturday.
On Friday, a review board of the Lahore High Court (LHC) had denied an extension for the detention of Malik Ishaq and issued orders for his release. Since the police had failed to provide concrete evidence of Ishaq’s involvement in terrorist activities, the board had released him.
The Punjab government had requested that the detention, which would end on January 25, to be extended for 30 more days, asserting that his release would be a threat to peace. When pressed by the court to present evidence for their case, the government had nothing to show up.
