Inter-City Transport: 100 acres cleared for bus terminals
The city government intends to build a state-of-the-art terminal.
KARACHI:
The hearing of seven constitutional petitions on the environment and inter-city buses were put off till March 9 after the city’s lawyer submitted a demarcation plan confirming that 100 acres for a terminal were cleared of squatters.
One of the petitions was filed by a lawyer Islam Hussain in 2004 after which other petitions were filed in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Friday’s proceedings revolved around the one filed in 2004 on moving the terminals from downtown Karachi to the city’s entry point so that residents were spared the hazards created by congested parking, auto-mechanic repairs etc.
The director of parking and terminus planning at the Karachi Municipal Corporation informed the bench that the Sindh and local government now have to approve the first draft of a plan and funding for the project as the city government intends to build a state-of-the-art terminal. The city asked for more time to complete the formalities.
