Did Gilani use a fake number plate when he went to court?

Number plate of car used by prime minister same as that of a Lahore resident’s.

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, who drove his car to the Supreme Court on January 19, is alleged to have used a fake number plate on his vehicle.

Media reports suggest that the car Prime Minister Gilani used to go to the court for his contempt of court hearing was bearing a fake number plate. The number plate on his car was LRZ-786, surprisingly the same as the number plate of Muhammad Riaz Ahsan’s car, who is a Lahore resident.

The Prime Minister House, after the emergence of the news, claims that the number plate was deliberately changed due to security concerns.

The Supreme Court had initiated contempt of court proceedings against Gilani, exasperated by the government’s refusal to write to the Swiss asking them to re-open graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari, ordering the premier to appear before the court personally.

Gilani agreed to appear before the court amid tight security with his counsel Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan and other eminent Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders.
