Lowest bidders: Urea import contracts for 250,000 tons awarded

Commodity will reach country by the end of February.

KARACHI:

The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), in response to an international tender floated on January 11, has awarded contracts for import of 250,000 tons of urea at the lowest bid of $431.45 per ton, including cost and freight, to four bidders.

In an announcement on Friday, the TCP said 13 bidders participated in the tender and quoted prices in the range of $431.45 to $448.14 per ton. Of these, 11 submitted offers in accordance with the prescribed evaluation criteria.

CHS Europe offered the lowest price of $431.45 per ton, including cost and freight, for 50,000 tons, which was accepted.

TCP said in order to buy the targeted 250,000 tons of urea, the import contracts for the remaining quantity were awarded to three other bidders, who had quoted higher rates but agreed to match the lowest bid of $431.45 per ton.

Of the three, Dreymoor Fertiliser Pte Limited Singapore will import 100,000 tons while Incitec Pivot Limited Australia and Globle Energy and Commodity Exchange Italy will supply 50,000 tons each.

According to industry sources, the urea will start arriving from the first week of February and the process will be completed by the end of month. This will cater to the needs of farmers during the current Rabi crop sowing season as domestic fertiliser production declines in the face of crippling shortage of gas – the key input for fertiliser manufacturers – leading to shortage and high prices.
