Cricket: Anjum, Iqbal shine on opening day
Sindh batsmen hit tons as Pentangular Cup kicks off
Aqeel Anjum and Faisal Iqbal hit centuries as Sindh posted an impressive 316 for three on the opening day of their Faysal Bank Pentangular Cup four-day match against Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).
Anjum and Iqbal shared a 184-run stand for the third wicket after Sindh were reduced to 42 for two at the National Stadium, Karachi. While Iqbal was dismissed after reaching his ton, Anjum remained unbeaten at stumps, having faced 218 deliveries.
Waqar Ahmed and Khalid Usman were the only two bowlers among the wickets.
Elsewhere, Sohail Tanvir helped Federal Areas hit back after Punjab were bundled out for 223 in the first-innings. The captain took two for 13 as Punjab were reduced to 31 for two at the Diamond Ground.
However, it was the performance of Mohammad Khalil and Bilawal Bhatti that wrecked havoc earlier in the day. Khalil claimed five for 53 as Bhatti finished with four for 44 as Federal Areas batsmen struggled in Islamabad.
