Sri Lankan team attackers among 14 arrested in 2011: Police

The 6 terrorists were arrested while planning an attack on an important building on Mall Road, Lahore.

As many as 14 terrorists involved in many attacks, including that on the Sri Lankan team, were arrested in 2011, police said on Thursday.

Lahore CIA police claimed that during investigations, six other cases of terrorism were discovered against the culprits. Seven Kalashnikovs, a suicide jacket, eight hand-grenades, one pistol and 1,081 bullets from their possession, police said.

Police said that six of the arrested culprits were involved in the March 2009 attack on the visiting Sri Lankan team when they were meeting proclaimed offender Samiullah and other criminals to plan an attack on an important building located at the Mall Road. The arrests were made at the Ring Road near Ravi.


Those arrested were identified as Obaidullah, Muhammad Javed Anwar, Qari Muhammad Ashfaq, Obaidur Rahman Qamar and Amanullah.

Meanwhile, in a case registered at the Badami Bagh Police Station, the CIA police also arrested Inayatullah, Hafiz Qari Ghulam Muhammad alias Abu Sufyan, Hakeem Muhammad Khursheed, Muhammad Akhtar Javed, Muhammad Younis and Muhammad Yousif son of Qari Hakeem Khaleel Ullah. Furthermore, culprits involved in a cracker explosion at the Haider Saeein Darbar were arrested.

Another terrorist, identified as Hafiz Moaaz alias Masoud alias Akram alias Haris son of Abdul Kareem, was arrested. He was a resident of Township and police recovered five CDs and banned literature from his possession.

Some terrorists were arrested from Faisal Town, Garden Town, Towship, Satukatla and Shalimar.
