RAWALPINDI:

An exhibition of calligraphic works by Nadeem Sheikh opened at the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) on Wednesday attracting both students and art lovers.

Over 35 pieces were showcased primarily featuring Quranic verses calligraphed using oil paints. Each piece embeds verses into corresponding images and their Urdu and English translations.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, the 40 year-old Sheikh stated that his work tries to “highlight the messages which Allah gives in the Holy Book”, adding that his association with the art began in his childhood, when he was influenced by his father. “Basically, I have inherited the art from my father (renowned calligrapher Gulzar Sheikh),” he said.

RAC Director Dr Waqar Ahmed said the large collection represents the tremendous creativity of the mind behind it, adding that the RAC is committed to providing a platform for artists like Sheikh to display their work.

Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Member National Assembly Malik Abrar was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony.

The exhibition will continue till January 23.
