Urban transport: 575 new buses to arrive in Lahore
100 buses from China to be available in February.
LAHORE:
To ensure efficient and affordable transport facilities, the Lahore Transport Company will soon provide 575 new buses in the city.
One hundred of these buses will be available in Lahore from China in the last week of February, LTC chairman Khwaja Ahmed Hassan told a meeting of the company’s board of directors at the Chief Minister Secretariat on Tuesday. He added that the technical standards of these buses will be monitored through a transparent mechanism.
Mentioning the Punjab chief minister’s recent visit to Ankara, Hassan said that Turkey has agreed to assist Punjab in a bus rapid transit project, electronic ticketing on buses and other sectors of social development. “Construction of the first phase of bus rapid transit, from General Hospital to Canal Road, will begin at the end of February.”
Talking about the unavailability of CNG, he said that the Punjab government has moved the Supreme Court, seeking uninterrupted supply of gas to public transport vehicles. “Promotion of CNG in public transport is a cardinal feature of the LTC. Federal government should immediately ensure provision of CNG to the transport sector and exempt it from gas loadshedding.”
