CEC meeting: PTI throws its weight behind judiciary
Requests court to hear petition on ISI involvement in political deals.

Throwing its weight behind the judiciary over the non-implementation of Supreme Court orders by the government, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) warned the government on Saturday to desist from any assault on the rule of law.
“The government is trying to destroy the Supreme Court … PTI’s tsunami will remove the rulers if they do not implement decisions of the apex court,” PTI chief Imran Khan said, during a Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting of the party.
“The prime minister and other members of the ruling party are attacking all institutions, including the Supreme Court, to hide their looting,” said a resolution adopted by the central executive committee.
However, Imran went on to request the court to hear an already filed petition regarding disbursement of funds among politicians by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to restrain the agency’s role in cutting political deals. Earlier, Air Marshal Asghar Khan had announced the merger of his party Tehrik-e-Istiqlal with the PTI.
“I have the receipts of those payments as proof,” Asghar disclosed, referring to his petition in the Supreme Court.
Criticising Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) role in the ongoing crisis, Imran censured the party’s strategy and urged its chief Nawaz Sharif to stop playing a double game over the issue and resign from the assemblies.
“PML-N has always supported the corrupt government during testing times in the name of democracy,” Khan added.
PTI to avoid by-elections
The central executive committee also decided not to take part in the upcoming by-elections unless fraudulent electoral rolls were purged from the system. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) recently announced the schedule for by-elections on five vacant seats in the National Assembly (NA).
The by-election includes four NA seats vacated by new PTI members, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Jahangir Khan Tareen and Sardar Asif Ahmed Ali. PTI chief Imran Khan said the decision to not participate in by-polls arose from doubts about the credibility of an election held with millions of bogus votes.
Imran said the CEC had also constituted a committee on Balochistan to negotiate with Baloch leaders, including those who were in exile, before the party’s March 23 rally in the province. The committee will also make arrangement for the Quetta rally.
