AG in a fix over which hearing to attend
CJ asks AG to approach SC bench and commission for schedule adjustment.
ISLAMABAD:
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry directed the attorney general to put up a request for adjustment before the judicial commission and the 11-member apex court bench hearing the memo case and the NRO implementation case.
The two hearings were to be held simultaneously on January 16 - and had to be attended by Attorney General (AG) Maulvi Anwarul Haq.
The AG had approached the chief justice to adjust the date of hearings. He informed the chief justice that he would have a hard time attending the memo commission proceedings and the NRO case at the same time.
According to a statement issued in Islamabad on Thursday, the chief justice said both cases were very important and had already been fixed by the commission and the apex court.
“Therefore, any order passed for an adjustment would likely cause a delay in the respective proceedings,” the statement said.
