Clearing the air: Balochistan to ban smoking in schools
The menace of smoking is attracting youth at alarming level, says Balochistan Minister for Education.
QUETTA:
Balochistan Minister for Education Tahir Mehmood has announced that the government will soon issue a formal notification banning smoking and use of cellular phones at schools and colleges in the province. Mehmood said this while speaking to the media after attending an orientation session organised by Tobacco Control Cell at the District Education Office on Thursday. “The menace of smoking is attracting youth at alarming level and the government needs to take initiatives to discourage this trend. Similarly the use of mobile phones is also keeping the youth away from education,” Tahir Mehmood of PPP told reporters, adding that government-run schools and colleges will also enforce an official ban in coming days. Mehmood, who is also a smoker, said he did not bother others by smoking publicly, and added, “I have decided to quit smoking soon.”
