Kacha area cleared of criminals: RPO

Says 4,673 suspects including 255 court absconders arrested in 2011.

Rahim Yar Khan police have cleared no-go-areas in Macha during a crackdown against criminals in the past few days, Regional Police Officer Capt (retd) Syed Mohammad Abid Qadri told The Express Tribune on Thursday.


He said the police had arrested 4,673 suspects, 255 court absconders, during 2011. He said in a crackdown against drug trafficking, 171 men were arrested, 49 gangs busted and illegal weapons including five grenades, 27 kalashnikovs, 49 riffles, 119 guns, 53 revolver, 304 pistols, 742 carbines and 14 daggers recovered from their possession. He said 21.25 kg afeem, 483 kg charas, 19 kg heroin, 30,885 bottles of liquor were seized in various raids and 391 illegally run distilleries sealed.

He said 1147 stolen cattle were recovered and handed over to the owners and FIRs registered against 507 men in these cases.


He said 555 FIRs were registered and 1,545 suspects arrested in water theft cases.

He said stolen money worth Rs35,597,335 was recovered and returned to the owners.

RPO Qadri said the police had been directed to increase contact with the people so that they did not feel intimidated in approaching police with their complaints.

He praised the Rahim Yar Khan district police officer Sohail Zafar for his hard work in the operation against criminals in the katcha area.
