Ex-BISE IT director's remand extended by four days

Judge asks anti-corruption unit to record Dr Majid Naeem's statement & present in court on January 16.

LAHORE:
A Special Judicial Magistrate Zafer Iqbal on Thursday extended the four-day physical remand of Dr Majid Naeem, the former principal of Punjab University College of Information Technology, and an IT consultant of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) to the anti-corruption department for his alleged involvement in the embezzlement of Rs250,000.

The judge directed the investigation officer of the case to record the statement of Dr Naeem and produce him before the court again on January 16.


Dr Naeem had been arrested on January 8 and produced before the court on the charges of embezzling funds. In earlier proceedings, the judge had granted three days physical remand of the accused to aforementioned department and directed to produce him again on January 12.

Dr Naeem has been charged with embezzling Rs250,000 by purchasing machinery for his personal firm.

The accused was also nominated in a reference of NAB on charges of withdrawing Rs3.9 million from university funds without approval of competent authority. Later, court had issued his release orders as he paid the misappropriated amount to the NAB Punjab through a plea bargain deal.
