KARACHI:

A robber was killed in a shoot-out with the Clifton police on Wednesday at Khayaban-e-Sahil.

Shabbir Ahmed, 32, was robbing Asif, who was with his family, in a car near Boat Basin when the patrolling police saw him. They asked Ahmed to turn himself in, but Ahmed opened fire at the police, said DSP Nayyarul Haq. The police retaliated and Ahmed was shot.

He was taken to Jinnah hospital where he died. According to the police, Ahmed lived in Keamari and was wanted for many crimes.  DSP Haq said that Ahmed did not belong to any gang and only used to rob people. Two TT pistols were also found on him.  SI Chaudhry Tariq Mehmood said that Ahmed was arrested several times earlier with his companions by Landhi, Jackson, Eidgah and other police stations. But now he used to work alone. Mehmood said that even Ahmed’s family had disowned him for being a criminal. An FIR was registered on Asif’s request.
