LHC puts BISP chief, govt on notice in widow’s petition

Jannat Firdos Bibi has submitted that she and her seven children are living below the poverty line.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has sought a reply from the federal government and Farzana Raja, chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme, in a petition seeking financial assistance under the programme.

Jannat Firdos Bibi, a resident of Baghbanpura and a widow, has submitted that she and her seven children are living below the poverty line. She said that she had no money to pay her for her daily expenses and does not have a source of income. Bibi said that she had approached every appropriate forum for financial aid but no one has paid any heed to her problems.

She has requested the court to direct the relevant authorities to provide her financial assistance on a monthly basis under the BISP.

After recording her contentions, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah issued notices to the BISP chairperson and the federal government for reply till January 18.

What a lousy decision. Should direct the government to cut military budget and redirect to erase poverty and disease.
