Lawyer’s Murder: No work takes place at Sindh’s courts

Lawyers across Sindh’s 24 districts boycotted court proceedings here on Tuesday, protesting against the killing of Nasarullah Warraich, a former governing body member of the Pakistan Bar Council, who was gunned down on Monday night.

The Sindh High Court was mean to go back to work Tuesday after the 12-day winter vacations but the first day’s proceedings were adjourned as senior most judge, Justice Maqbool Baqar, acceded to the lawyers’ request for a suspension of work.

Later, an emergency general body meeting, chaired by Anwar Mansoor Khan and Sophrab Sarki, the president and honorary secretary of the SHCBA, adopted a unanimous resolution which criticised the government for its failure to protect the members of the legal fraternity. Recalling that the deceased was shot twice in the head from a close range, the resolution pointed out that it was a case of a targeted killing and demanded the government make arrests.

The Malir Bar and other bars in Sindh also protested.
