Gujranwala Medical College made part of UHS

The college will be a UHS sub-campus and a ‘model college’.

LAHORE:

The Punjab government has declared Gujranwala Medical College (GMC) a constituent college of the University of Health Sciences (UHS).

According to a notification issued by the Health Department on Tuesday, the management, administration and control of GMC has been transferred to UHS with immediate effect. The 450-bed Gujranwala District Headquarters Hospital shall remain the GMC’s teaching hospital.

The GMC employees shall remain government employees under the GMC Development Scheme till the completion of the scheme. They will then be eligible for absorption as employees of the university in accordance with the UHS Ordinance 2002.

UHS Vice Chancellor Prof Malik Hussain Mubashar congratulated the GMC students and faculty for becoming part of the UHS. He said the GMC students were trailblazers as they would be the first undergraduate medical batch of the university. He said that the GMC would be a UHS sub-campus and resolved to make it a “model medical college”. GMC was established by the Punjab government in 2010 and was recently recognised by the PMDC.
