Attempted murder:Judge rejects bail plea of absent accused

According to the FIR, the accused attacked Imran and his friend and relative.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Nazeer Ahmad on Monday rejected a bail plea moved by Mehr Shafiq, who is accused of stabbing a relative of poet Habib Jalib, as he did not turn up for the hearing.


Shafiq, his sister-in-law Rubab (the second wife of singer Ghulam Abbas) and her son Haider Abbas are named as the accused in an attempted murder case registered at Sabzazar police station on December 26, 2011, on the complaint of Mohsin, father of Muhammad Imran. Shafiq and Rubab are on interim bail while Abbas is in police custody.


According to the FIR, the accused attacked Imran and his friend and relative Ali Abbas, Ghulam Abbas’s son from his first marriage. Imran was seriously injured in the knife attack and lost his gallbladder.

On Monday, judge Nazeer Ahmad rejected Shafiq’s bail plea as he did not attend the hearing.

The judge  will consider Rubab’s bail plea today (Tuesday).
