Land awarded: LDA allots land for two new hospitals

Governing body approves funds for sports club on Ravi Road.

LAHORE:

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has allotted two chunks of land to the Health Department for setting up two hospitals.

The LDA’s governing body met on Monday and decided to allot 50 kanals and 14 marlas for a 300-bed hospital near the Matches Factory on GT Road, Shahdara; and two acres and eight kanals near the Civic Centre, Quaid-i-Azam Town.

The governing body decided to establish a dedicated directorate to monitor the status of development works in private housing schemes approved by the LDA. It decided to sell 67 shops in an under-construction parking and commercial plaza at Moon Market to help pay for its construction.

The governing body approved the construction of a pedestrian overhead bridge at Maulana Shoukat Ali Road in front of Jinnah Hospital at a cost of Rs37.226 million; and the construction of a slip road connecting Bahawalpur Road with Lytton Road at Qurtaba Chowk, as well the rehabilitation of Maulana Shabbir Usmani Road from Y junction, New Garden Town, to the Faisal Town roundabout at a combined cost of Rs136.88 million.

It also approved a revised cost estimate (Rs172.791 million) for the improvement and rehabilitation of Ferozepur Road from Qurtaba Chowk to Khaira Distributary, Chungi Amer Sidhu. Also under this project, a T-junction will be built at Ghazi Road, entry and exit ramps will be built from the Qainchi intersection to Khaira Distributary, the General Hospital intersection will be revamped, and parking areas will be developed from the Qainchi to Khaira Distributary.

The LDA also allowed the construction of a sports club at 108 Ravi Road at a cost of Rs58.226 million.

The club will have two badminton courts, a table tennis table, a basketball court, two tennis courts, two volleyball courts, a gym for men, a kabaddi ground and a wrestling area.

The governing body meeting was chaired by LDA Chairman Ahad Khan Cheema and attended by Vice Chairman Aamir Asgher Dar, Director General Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, WASA Vice Chairman Haji Muhammad Sharif, WASA Managing Director Dr Javed Iqbal, TEPA Chief Engineer Saifur Rahman, Chief Metropolitan Planner Waseem Ahmad Khan, Chief Town Planner Chaudhry Muhammad Akram, Chief Engineer Israr Saeed and representatives of the Housing, Planning and Development and Finance departments, as well as the nine towns of the city.
