Going green: KMC to install solar-powered street lights

KESC will conduct an audit of Civic Centre, where all the main offices of the KMC are located.

KARACHI:

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is looking for ways to conserve electricity at its offices.

Senior officials from the organisation met the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) on Saturday to discuss the matter. The administrator, Muhammad Hussain Syed, presided over the meeting.

The power utility will conduct an audit of Civic Centre, where all the main offices of the KMC are located. “The administrator has asked officials to review the power consumption pattern of street lights, parks and other facilities.

He has also asked them to find ways of conserving energy,” said a KMC handout. At the meeting, it was also decided that solar panels would be installed on street lights along Shahrah-e-Quaideen and Shahrah-e-Faisal. No deadline has been given for the project. The KMC handout also states that within a month, solar-powered street lights will start functioning on the road which runs from Bilawal Chowrangi to Bagh Ibn-e Qasim.
