Boxing: Mayweather’s jail term postponed

Floyd Mayweather will not have to serve a 90-day jail sentence.

LAS VEGAS:
Unbeaten US boxer Floyd Mayweather will not have to serve a 90-day jail sentence until after a planned fight in May, according to a court ruling. Mayweather had been scheduled to begin serving the term on Friday after pleading guilty on December 21 to domestic violence charges. A Las Vegas judge also ordered Mayweather to complete 100 hours of community service and gave him a $2,500 fine. However, the same judge now ruled that Mayweather could postpone his sentence in order to train for a fight on May 5. Mayweather’s camp has reserved the MGM Grand Garden Arena for a pay-per-view bout on that date, though the opponent is yet to be named.
