Football: Scholes to consider comeback
Scholes still trains regularly and would be fit enough to join the first-team squad on short notice.
LONDON:
Retired Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes is prepared to return as short-term cover for the club’s depleted midfield, according to a report in yesterday’s The Sun.
Scholes, who retired at the end of last season, was approached by some of his former teammates last month to consider the option of a comeback. According to the report, Scholes does not intend to approach United manager Sir Alex Ferguson directly but could nevertheless agree to a short-term arrangement if contacted by the latter.
Currently serving as a coach for United’s reserves, Scholes still trains regularly and would be fit enough to join the first-team squad on short notice.
