Mohammad Amir might be released late January: Sources

Sources say Amir will be released on bail after half of his jail term ends.

Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Amir, jailed in London over a spot-fixing scandal, is expected to be released later this month, reported Express News on Saturday.

Sources in London said that Amir will be released after half of his jail term ends on February 3 as per the British laws.

It is expected that the cricketer will be released on bail over good attitude shown in the young offenders’ institute where he is currently serving his punishment.

The teenage fast bowler was sentenced last year in November to six months in prison for bowling no-balls at prearranged times during a Test match against England at Lord’s in August 2010. After pleading guilty, he was sent to serve time in a young offenders’ institute.

Former captain Salman Butt and fast bowler Mohammad Asif were also jailed over the same scandal. Their British agent Mazhar Majeed was also jailed.
