An anti-corruption court on Thursday granted bail to six of the accused arrested in a bus tragedy near Kallar Kahar that claimed up to 39 lives.
Faisalabad Anti Corruption Special Judge Rana Abdul Hafeez Khan granted bail to motorway vehicle examiner Liaquat Buland Khan, bus owner Sameeullah, route permit holder Asif Bajwa, Faisalabad Development Authority assistant director Zafar Sial, Excise Inspector Muhammad Bashir and one Khalil Abbas.
On September 26, 2011, a school bus carrying 39 people, including 34 students of the Millat Grammar School in Faisalabad, were killed and 72 others sustained injuries when the vehicle overturned on the motorway near Kallar Kahar Mountain Range.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had immediately formed an inspection team to probe the matter.
The team held government departments, including Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA), Motor Vehicles Authority and Motorway Police, responsible for the accident.
Consequently, the Millat Town police registered a case against seven people, including government officials.
