PPP’s EC Registration: Another Awan petition sent to CJ

Petitioner Advocate said President Zardari had not issued any notification about Awan’s nomination as vice president.

LAHORE:

Justice Ahmad Farooq Sheikh of Lahore High Court on Thursday sent a petition to the chief justice seeking record of Pakistan Peoples Party registration with the Election Commission of Pakistan and notification of Senator Babar Awan as vice president of the party, reportedly issued by its co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari. Justice Sheikh observed that since a similar matter was already pending in the court of Justice Muhammad Khalid Mehmood Khan, therefore, the new petition might also be fixed before the same judge. Petitioner Advocate Afaq Ahmad said that President Zardari had not issued any notification about Awan’s nomination as vice president. He said that Awan had himself drafted a notification in this regard and was using it despite strong reservations of senior PPP leaders.

He alleged that Awan was part of a conspiracy against the president by stating that he (president) had nominated him as PPP
vice president.
