Pir Pagara heads to London for treatment

The PML-F leader had been on a ventilator at a Karachi hospital.

KARACHI:

Chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F), and spiritual leader of the ‘Hur’ jamaat, Pir Pagara will be flown to London for treatment, according to his party members.

The PML-F leader was admitted to the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) on November 24, where his lungs were operated upon. Shortly afterwards, due to deteriorating condition, he was put on a ventilator.

Pagara will be flown to London on a special plane, chartered from a Saudi Arabian company, with medical equipment onboard. He will be accompanied by his wife, son and PML-F president Sadruddin Rashdi, and chief khalifa of the Hur jamaat Qadir Bux Mangrio.

Party members said the president and prime minister contacted Pagara’s family and offered to bear his medical expenses. The offer, however, was declined.

The party had formed a board comprising experts from AKUH, Dow Medical College and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences. Doctors said that Pagara’s health was stable enough to allow him to fly to London. On Wednesday, Pagara, in a semi-conscious state at the hospital, was visited by devotees. Distraught at their leader’s condition, they insisted on sending him abroad for treatment.
