Staged Encounter: DSP’s medical records summoned

Bajwa had applied to the court to be given a medical check-up on November 30.

LAHORE:
An additional district and sessions judge on Wednesday directed the medical superintendent of Services Hospital to submit by January 16 the medical records of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Riasat Bajwa, who is accused of involvement in an extra-judicial killing. The complainant in the case had asked Judge Muhammad Sheraz Kiani to issue the order as the DSP had not attended the last few hearings. Bajwa had applied to the court to be given a medical check-up on November 30. On December 8, the court was told that DSP Bajwa was undergoing treatment in the urology ward of Services Hospital and on December 17 that he was undergoing surgery. The judge summoned him for January 1 but he did not turn up, upon which the complainant asked for his medical records. Three other policemen – accused of killing a robbery suspect in custody and then trying to pass it off as a shootout –  were produced before the court.
