Attacked: SU professor shot dead

This is the second murder since a student Rameez Suhag was shot dead in the university hostel in March 2011.

The director of student affairs at the University of Sindh, Prof. Bashir Ahmed Chanur was gunned down on Monday. Chanur Chanur was a retired professor working for the university on contract.


He was on his way home when two unidentified men on a motorcycle shot at him near the Allam I I Qazi mausoleum. This is the second murder since a student identified as Rameez Suhag was shot dead in the university hostel in March 2011. The head of security, Sajid Qayum Memon said that they could not blame anyone right now and the police was investigating the case. He added that one of the suspects was also shot at by one of the security guards. Prof. Chanur was shot at four times and was taken to Liaquat University Hospital, Jamshoro. The doctor who was looking after him said that an automatic weapon was used. According to Memon, the FIR was going to get registered at the Jamshoro police station.  The university’s teachers association and officers association condemned the attack. The university will remain closed on Tuesday, January 3.

This is inefficeicy and mismangement which resulted in the loss one innocent professor in hands of terrorists. Condmenation statements and offering condolence will not do the good. Government should stand against criminals and take action if really want to serve sindh and education in this country

Unlike Raymond Davis he was not carrying a weapon and became an easy target.
