A private mental hospital was inaugurated in Sargodha on Monday in a unique ceremony.


A a labourer was invited as the chief guest. Dr Shamsuddin Khan, managing director of Al Shams Hospital, said that labourers were the backbone of a country.


He said they had a more important role in the society than any politician or a celebrity.

“Only those nations prosper where labourers are given their rights,” he said. Arshad Mehmood, a daily wage labourer was invited to inaugurate the 50-bed hospital, in a ceremony attended by doctors, labourers and some local government representatives.

Dr Khan, a psychiatrist, said the hospital to deal with the increasing number of psychiatric patients. He said research in mental ailments and treatment of such patients was crucial and the hospital was well equipped for it.

He said economic disparities and irresponsible use of medicines were among the main causes of mental ailments.
