SIALKOT:

Change will come in the country only through the ballot as it is the only way to gauge public opinion, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Saturday.

She was speaking at a public gathering in Zinda village of Sialkot after inaugurating a Sui Gas project.

Gas will be supplied to Zinda, Munawarpur, Majwal and Lado Pindi villages of Sialkot tehsil under the project.

Dr Awan said government would complete its five-year term and then hold elections. “There is no short-cut route to power. King’s parties can no longer be allowed to run the country against the wishes of the people,” she said.

She said all politicians should unite in defending democracy as the country’s welfare was linked to the continuation of the democratic process.

She said that there was corruption in some state institutions but added these were not established by the incumbent government. She said Pakistan Peoples Party was committed to ‘institution building’.

She said tough decisions would be taken to improve the performance of state institutions.

Dr Awan said with institutions strengthened, the government would be better equipped to address the problems the country was facing currently.

She said those spreading rumours about the government’s future only wanted instability in the country and that these elements were not concerned with the interest of the people of the country.
