PML-N leader Amir Hayat Rokhri succumbs to heart failure

Rokhri was serving as an MPA, elected from PP-44 (Mianwali-II) for PML-N.

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Amir Hayat Khan Rokhri passed away due to a heart attack in the early hours of Thursday, December 29, 2011, Express News reported. 

He was a sitting MPA of the Punjab assembly, and a former MNA of the National Assembly.

Aamer Hayat Khan Rokhri son of former Senator Amir Abdullah Khan Rokhri was born on August 12, 1956 in Lahore. He obtained his early education from Aitchison College Lahore and graduated in 1977 from FC College, Lahore.

Being an active sports enthusiast, he had been functioning as President, Lahore City Cricket Association since 1985. He had been a serving member on the Governing Body of Pakistan Cricket Board since 2002.

He is survived by three children.

Rokhri started his political career as a member of National Assembly, serving from 1985-88. He was elected to the provincial assembly in the first government of Nawaz Sharif from 1990-93. He contested and won a seat in the Punjab Assembly during 2002-07.

A businessman by trade, Rokhri returned for a third time to the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab following victory in the 2008 general elections with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

Rokhri's introduction into politics was not accident since his father, Amir Abdullah Khan Rokhri had served as an MPA in the Punjab Assembly during Zulfiqar Bhutto's regime, and subsequently as an MNA, and a Senator.
