‘Poor performance’: 30 FIA officials served 150 show cause notices

The officials have been accused of delayed disposal of cases, corruption.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has served 150 show cause notices to 30 officials over poor performance. 


FIA Director General (DG) Syed Tahsin Anwar Ali Shah, has recently expressed concerns over the poor performance, delay in the disposal of cases and involvement of some FIA officials in corrupt practices. He has directed Waqar Haider, the director (Punjab chapter), to register cases against the officials for corruption and misuse of authority.


Sources in the DG’s office told The Express Tribune that the pendency of enquires and cases in Lahore had reached 150. The notices have been served to 12 inspectors and 18 sub inspectors of the Anti Corruption Circle, Corporate Crime Circle and Commercial Banking Circle. As many as 18 notices have been issued to a single Commercial Banking Circle inspector.

These notices were served after the DG visited the FIA office along with Additional Director General (Immigration) Chaudhry Muhammad Manzoor to review the performance of these circles.

The DG also directed the Punjab director to register a case against three FIA anti trafficking officials, Assistant Sub Inspector Sohail Salamat, Assistant Sub Inspector Atif Shabbir and Head Constable Tahir Malik, on charge of receiving Rs0.1 million as a bribe from the proprietor of a travel agency and demanding another Rs0.2 million.
