Football: Frustrated Wenger expects more twists

Arsene Wenger expects more twists at the top of the Premier League this season after blaming his players for dropping points in a 1-1 draw against Wolves.

Arsenal were left frustrated after Gervinho’s opener was cancelled out by Steven Fletcher, with the visitors holding on despite Nenad Milijas’ dismissal. It meant Arsenal missed the opportunity to climb back into the Champions League places following Chelsea’s draw against Fulham the previous day, while also leaving them 12 points off the lead.

“There are going to be a lot of twists and turns, but unfortunately we could not take advantage of that, which is frustrating,” said Wenger.

Meanwhile, Wolves manager Mick McCarthy confirmed he would consider appealing against Milijas’ red card after he was dismissed in the 75th minute following a tackle on Mikel Arteta.

Spurs march on with Bale double

Gareth Bale’s superb display, capped by two well-taken goals, saw Tottenham Hotspur win 2-0 away to Norwich as the Londoners maintained their Premier League title challenge.

Tuesday’s victory meant Harry Redknapp’s third-placed team went four points clear of their nearest pursuers and moved to within seven of the top two of Manchester City and champions Manchester United.
