Omar was, however, listed on the State department’s Rewards for Justice program website.

WASHINGTON: Pakistani media outlets appeared to be the main source of a rumour that quickly picked up steam among twitter users, many of whom were Afghan journalists. It was suggested by Pakistani media outlets that the elusive Taliban chief Mullah Mohammad Omar had been removed from the FBI’s  “Most Wanted Terrorists list”. However, it has now been established that Omar was never on the FBI list in the first place, though he is listed on the State department’s Rewards for Justice program website. The public affairs officer at the State Department told The Express Tribune “There is no change in Mullah’s status.”
