Reshuffle in bureaucracy: Centre, Punjab agree on new arrangements

Decision to cancel the transfer of 18 senior bureaucrats of Punjab to other provinces was taken at a meeting.

As a sign of reconciliation between the PPP-led federal government and the opposition PML(N)-led Punjab government in the wake of the changing political scenario, the notifications of transfers of some senior bureaucrats that had become bone of contention between the two parties, have been withdrawn.


According to sources, the decision to cancel the transfer of 18 senior bureaucrats of Punjab to other provinces was taken at a meeting between Establishment Division Secretary Khushnood Lashari and Punjab Chief Secretary Nasir Khosa on Tuesday.

Five officials of the District Management Group (DMG), who recently had been promoted to grade-21, namely Captain (retd) Yousaf, Shahid Mehmood, Syed Mubashir Shah, Khalid Masood Chaudhry and Abid Javed will be transferred to Punjab. A summary in this regard has been sent to the Prime Minister’s secretariat.


Transfer of the grade-20 official, Zafarullah and grade-19 official, Saqib Zafar from Punjab to Balochistan have also been cancelled and a summary for this has been sent to the secretary Establishment.

The transfer of Captain (retd) Muhammad Zubair, a grade-21 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan and grade-19 officers ­-- Muhammad Azam Arshad, Muhammad Farooq Mazhar and Ghulam Rasool Zahid, has also been withheld.

Moreover, Ashar Hameed, Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry, Muhammad Ahsan Younus, Abdul Qadeer Qayyum and Shehzad Aslam Siddiqui, all PSP officials of grade-19, have also had their transfer orders cancelled. Similarly, Muhammad Atif Akram, Sulaiman Ali Khan, Mehboob Rasheed and Owais Ahmed, all of grade-18, will continue to serving in Punjab.

Meanwhile, an official said that the Punjab Irrigation Secretary Major (retd) Azam is likely to be removed from his post.
