Bitter escape: Prisoner attempts escape from Malir jail

An inmate of District Jail Malir attempted escape on Tuesday. Shahbaz Afridi had been arrested by the Mehmoodabad police for a robbery three days ago and was sent to jail on Monday by the court.
SHO Mehmoodabad Rao Muqim said that Afridi jumped over the wall after climbing on top of it with a ladder when he was working in the construction that was going on at the jail. The police chased after Afridi and caught him.
According to the jail superintendent, Nusrat Mangan, security at the jail has been tightened to avoid such incidents in the future. He said that his attempt to escape will be included in his charges. But SHO Muqim was more candid and admitted that Afridi was able to escape because of the negligence of the jail staff. Afridi was a drug user and the staff should be more vigilant about them.
