Sports gala: Preston, IIUI teams emerge as winners
An inter-university competition pulls together a big crowd.
ISLAMABAD:
An inter-university sports competition concluded with teams of different universities emerging victorious in cricket, badminton and football tournaments at Preston university on Monday.
In the finals of women’s Twenty-20 cricket tournament, Preston university, Islamabad Campus beat International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) by nine wickets and lifted the trophy. The scores were, IIUI, 54 for 10 wickets, while Preston scored 55 for 1 wicket.
In men’s T-20 tournament, the finals were played between IIUI and Preston. IIUI beat Preston in men’s cricket championship by 7 wickets. The scores were IIUI, 116 for 3 wickets in 12 overs and Preston, 112 for 10 wickets in 17.1 overs.
Saad Khan of IIUI was declared man of the match who scored 41 runs. The trophy of the tournament was awarded to the winning team of IIUI. In the football, Preston beat Bahria University by three goals to one and lifted the trophy.
Similarly, in the finals of the men’s badminton championship Muhammad Nawaz of Islamic College, Peshawar, beat Irfan Shahid of Preston, Kohat, to win the first position. In the finals of men’s doubles, Muhammad Nawaz and Irfanulhaq of Islamic College, Peshawar beat Aqil Noman and Pir Omair Shah of Preston, Kohat, to win the doubles title. Islamic college, Peshawar lifted the men’s doubles inter-university badminton trophy.
In the finals of women’s doubles badminton championship, Dania Bibi and Nazish of Preston stood first.
