Vehicle destroyed: CNG cylinder blows up, no casualties

Passengers and the driver of vehicle escape narrowly.

RAWALPINDI:

A passenger van caught fire on Saturday before its CNG cylinder blew up destroying the vehicle completely near the District Courts.

The passengers and the driver of the vehicle (LZR-8240) escaped narrowly after they evacuated the vehicle just as the vehicle caught fire.

As soon as smoke started coming out of the van, the driver asked the passengers to run for their lives and after some minutes the CNG cylinder exploded resulting in complete destruction of the vehicle, said Muhammad Ali a passenger.

Muhammad Bashir, the driver of the vehicle plying between Pirwadhai Bus Stand to Adiala Jail, said the cylinder blew up after an electric wire sparked caused fire in the van. Regional Transport Authority Secretary Asad Kazmi could not be reached to comment on the ongoing campaign against the faulty CNG cylinders in public transport.

The provincial government is said to have initiated a campaign against faulty CNG cylinders following the directions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
