Change of mind: Govt not to upgrade tourism institute
PITHM was the first state-run institute of hotel management.

The Sindh government has reversed its decision to upgrade the Pakistan Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (PITHM) to a university. PITHM was the first state-run institute of hotel management. It came under the control of the provincial government after the devolution of federal ministry of tourism. According to tourism officials, the institute will apply for affiliation with Karachi University. Earlier, the tourism department had decided to upgrade the institute to a university and set up four campuses in Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur and Larkana districts. But Law Minister Ayaz Soomro revoked the decision when he held the charge of the department. Around Rs100 million was the estimated cost of the project.
