KARACHI:
More than half of the people living in Bhit Shah Island have developed different oral diseases because of the habitual consumption of betel leaf and gutka. According to the president of Bonafide Fishermen and Boat Owners Welfare Association, Asif Bhatti, oral diseases are on the rise not only in Baba Bhit but other islands outside Karachi. He urged the government to set up a hospital at the island. There is no adequate health care facility in Bhit Shah. Women have to be rushed to the main Karachi city even for childbirth.
