Disqualification of judges: Registrar issued notice for Jan 19

LHC issued notice to the registrar on a petition seeking disqualification of 229 civil judges-cum-judicial magistrates

LAHORE:
Justice Umar Ata Bandial of Lahore High Court on Friday issued notice to the Court’s registrar on a petition seeking disqualification of 229 civil judges-cum-judicial magistrates in Punjab, who had failed the departmental examination. The judge directed the registrar to engage a counsel or representative for his appearance in the court on January 19. At a previous hearing, the judge had allowed the petitioner to make the registrar party in his petition. Advocate Chaudhry Muhammad Fakhir Razzaq filed the petition stating that 288 civil judges-cum-judicial magistrates had appeared in the departmental examination for regularisation. However, only 59 passed. He said that 22 among the successful judges were given grace marks and majority of the unsuccessful judges were failed. These judges were directly appointed by the high court last year. The petitioner contended that the situation was disappointing for judiciary. He requested the court to declare all unsuccessful judges disqualified for the posts and sought directions to stop them from performing judicial work.
