No more: Federal Bureau of Statistics dissolved

The bureau will now be headed by a chief statistician, with a 12-member governing body headed by Finance Minister.

ISLAMABAD:


The government has decided to dissolve the Federal Bureau of Statistics and its affiliated organisations and create a new organisation titled Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).


Finance ministry sources told The Express Tribune that the president had signed the bill for setting up the new statistics bureau and Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh would make an announcement today (Friday) in this regard at a press conference.

According to sources, the bureau will be headed by a chief statistician and will have a 12-member governing body headed by the finance minister.

Shaikh will also preside over the first meeting of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics on Friday when a detailed presentation will be given about the structure and functions of the new body.

According to sources, most of the members of the governing body of the new bureau are being hired from the private sector and the Statistics Division secretary will also be its member.
