Contempt of Court: DCO told to allot land within 7 days

LHC to allot alternative land to a 70- year-old widow to her land acquired by the Punjab Revenue Department.

LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court in a contempt of court petition on Wednesday ordered the Mianwali district coordination officer (DCO) to allot the alternative land to a 70- year-old widow to her land acquired by the Punjab Revenue Department for construction of Chashma Barrage.

Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan had earlier ordered DCO Tariq Mahmood to allot 20 kanals to Rasheed Bibi within two months, who has been awaiting compensation for 35 years.

Earlier, the DCO had tried to persuade the court that it was not possible to allot the land to the petitioner because a case pertaining to her land was already pending before the Supreme Court and the apex court had granted a stay order in the matter.

The judge had then asked provincial law officer Sirajul Islam to inquire into the matter, who later submitted that though the matter pertaining to the land was subjudice, the apex court had not issued any stay order.

The court again ordered the DCO to allot the land to the widow within seven days and sought a compliance report.
