Boxing: IBF finds no discrepancy in Amir bout
The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has decided against ordering an immediate rematch.
MANILA:
The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has decided against ordering an immediate rematch of the light-welterweight bout between Amir Khan and Lamont Peterson. Khan had maintained that referee Joe Cooper’s decision to dock him two points for pushing, which enabled Peterson to claim a split-decision victory, was incorrect. However, IBF Championships Chairman Lindsay Tucker said that a review of the scorecards and tape of the fight had not yielded any discrepancies. “In the rules, if the referee feels that there’s a foul, then it’s his call to take a point,” said Tucker. “He did warn Khan several times before he actually took the first point.”
