Ex-CDA officials still enjoying perks

Express July 24, 2010

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is yet to take action against former officials who have not given up benefits they received while serving,The Express Tribune learnt.

According to well-informed sources, these officials include two former CDA chairpersons, Kamran Lashari and Tariq Mehmood, who are still enjoying benefits they were given during their tenure, like CDA residences that include swimming pools, in addition to official vehicles and staff.

Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, current CDA Chairman, could not be reached for comment. However, another official, on condition of anonymity, said the CDA periodically sent reminders and recall notices to all officials who are still enjoying official benefits, even though they no longer work for the authority, but they have never received response to such notices.

Lashari, who is currently Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, left the CDA approximately two years ago. However, he is still occupying a CDA residence with a swimming pool in Sector F-6/1.

Lashari’s predecessor Mehmood has five official security guards deputed at his residence. Similarly, Fazeel Asghar, former chief commissioner Islamabad, still resides in a CDA residence in Sector F-7/3.

Kamran Lashari had filed a review petition in the Supreme Court against an order declaring that he violated CDA rules and regulations during his tenure as chairman.
