‘Defaming the country’: President, PM should resign, says Hashmi

PML-N leader likens political situation of today with that in 1971.

MULTAN:

Demanding the resignations of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Javed Hashmi alleged that their involvement in the memogate issue has defamed the country and its armed forces.

Politics today is no different from the political conditions back in 1971, Hashmi said while addressing a ceremony on the dismemberment of East Pakistan in Multan.

Politicians, army men and the establishment were all responsible back then for the dismemberment and “I had even called a procession at that time in Lahore asking for General Yahya to be hanged,” he said.

It was the tussle of the same people who were in power back then which has been destroying Pakistan today.

The nation will never forget the dismemberment of the country. Our politicians and the establishment do not learn from that tragic incident and Bangladesh has learnt a lot, he added.

The economic progress of Bangladesh amply proves that they have learnt their lesson well,” Hashmi said, adding, “The need of the hour is to put a check on corrupt politicians. The people of Pakistan, even the voters of Multan, have rejected the prime minister due to his corruption. The resignations should come from the parliament otherwise they should be prepared for the worst.”

Hashmi blamed the prime minister for building his assets by stealing those of the people of Pakistan.
