Funds allocated for 8 projects lie untouched
Work on schemes to start once PC-I ready, says School Education secy.

The Rs599 million set aside in the current year’s budget by the Punjab government for eight development projects of the School Education Department has not been made much use of.
The funds are meant for the establishment of Cadet Colleges in Chakwal, Pasrur and Isa Khel, renovation of schools, provision of computers, and upgrade of computer labs and awarding of merit scholarships.
The Planning and Development Board chairman expressed dissatisfaction with the slow utilization of funds at recent Annual Development Plan review meeting.
The Punjab government had allocated Rs52.18 million for the establishment of a cadet college at Chakwal; Rs32.18 for a cadet college at Pasrur; and Rs.42.18 million for a cadet college at Isa Khel, Mianwali.
Rs.23.18 million was allotted for the renovation of Government Central Model School, Lower Mall, Lahore.
The government provided Rs200 million to the Punjab Education Sector Reforms Programme for school councils’ capacity building. The project was assigned a priority status.
Rs100 million had been earmarked for merit scholarships. But no scholarships have been paid so far.
The Directorate of Staff Development director was provided with Rs102.97 million to for establishment of labs in elementary schools. The funds are unused.
School Education Secretary Muhammad Aslam Kamboh said that the funds were lying unused because the schemes had been conceived at the federal government and later transferred to the province.
“The department is preparing PC-I (project digest) for the schemes, which will be done soon,” he said.
The School Education Secretary did not give a specific date.
