Highhandedness: Seven cops arrested for teenager’s murder
‘Sher was abandoned in a critical condition at hospital’.
VEHARI:
Seven policemen were arrested on Wednesday for a teenager’s murder in Vehari on directives of the district police officer following a protest demonstration led by the family of the deceased.
The family alleged that Sub Inspector Tariq Salaar and six constables had raided their house in Kot Qadir Bakhsh village in search of Tasneem, Sher’s sister who had had a fight with her husband (who was accompanying the police) and was living with her parents.
Tasneem told The Express Tribune that police took away Sher after he had tried to stop her husband’s from beating her in presence of the police team.
She said Sher was later dropped by the police at Vehari district headquarters (DHQ) hospital. She said doctors at the DHQ hospital contacted the family and informed them about the youngster. She said he was referred to Nishtar Hospital where he died.
A post mortem examination carried out at the DHQ hospital, however, found no sign of torture on the body. Medical Officer Dr Abdul Qayyum Magsi said that samples had been taken from the body and sent for a chemical examination and that the report would be available in a couple of days.
An FIR has been registered against suspects at Sahuka police station under Sections 302, 337 A1 and A2 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Talking to the Tribune DPO Nasir Ali Rizvi said he would ensure that justice was done and that the policemen punished if they were guilty of the charges. WITH ADDITIONAL REPORTING BY SHAHID MIRZA.
