Football: Army go 4th with 2-0 win over KPT
Yousuf, Ansar seal easy win in football league; PIA record 1-0 victory.
KARACHI:
Army beat KPT 2-0 to climb to fourth place in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) while PMC Athletico ended their season on a disappointing note, going down 1-0 to PIA.
After a fiercely competitive start to the match, Army’s Shakeel Yousaf scored the opener just before half-time. KPT failed to avail their chances after the interval before Ansar Ahmed’s goal in the 63rd minute put them out of the game.
Army now have 50 points from 27 games and replace KESC in fourth spot, behind leaders KRL, second-placed Afghan FC and Muslim FC, who are third. The defeat meant KPT slipped to the 10th place with 32 points after 29 matches.
PIA substitute downs Athletico
In another match, PIA and Athletico played out a goal-less first-half before substitute Imran Khan scored the winner in the 86th minute.
PIA now sit fifth with 48 points in 26 matches, while Athletico ended their season with 27 points.
The tournament will end on December 28 with Pel being relegated from the PPFL already. While KRL have already clinched this year’s title, the race for second place in the tournament is still open with one match remaining between Afghan FC and Muslim FC, who have a three-point difference
between them.
